M53 Found Carse of Gowrin Butter Crock

$125.00

Antique butter crock from The Carse of Gowrie Dairy Company, located on Ward Road, Dundee. The crock is made of stoneware, featuring a beige base with brown glazed accents on the rim and lid.

Text on the crock reads "THE CARSE OF GOWRIE DAIRY COMPANY LIMITED WARD ROAD DUNDEE." Search results indicate that the Carse of Gowrie is a lowland region in Scotland. A historical document from 1922 mentions "Carse of Gowrie Dairy Co. Ltd." at 68 Ward Road, Dundee, suggesting the crock dates back to at least that period. These types of crocks were commonly used for storing butter before refrigeration became widespread.
